A great king named Kartavirya

According to the legend, in ancient times, in Tretayuga, a great king named Kartavirya ruled. He was very brave and pious, but he had no children. The king and his wife Queen Padmini were extremely sad due to not having children. The king performed many yagyas, donations and prayers, but he did not get a son.

Worship of Lord Vishnu for thousands of years

According to the story, one day the king handed over the charge of the kingdom to his ministers and went to the forest with his wife Padmini to do penance. Both of them performed rigorous penance for years. King Kartavirya worshiped Lord Vishnu for thousands of years, but still he did not receive any boon. Due to penance the king’s body became extremely weak.

Queen Padmini reached Anasuya Mata’s ashram

Queen Padmini became worried after seeing such condition of her husband. One day, while traveling in the forest, she reached the ashram of the great devotee Anasuya Mata. The queen bowed to Mother Anasuya and humbly narrated her pain.
