Overloaded trolley runs like death: After crushing a teacher, it collides with an e-rickshaw, five die painfully
To tie. In Banda on Wednesday evening, a speeding overloaded trolley ran on the road causing death. First, the trolley crushed a retired teacher returning home on a bicycle, then while escaping, it hit an e-rickshaw full of passengers coming from the front. The accident was so severe that the e-rickshaw bounced and fell into a ditch and it was destroyed. Five people died in this tragic accident, while five others were seriously injured.
According to the information, retired teacher Rameshwar Prasad (62), resident of Ghuri village of Bisanda police station area, had gone to BRC Bisanda for pension related work. He was returning to the village on bicycle at around 5.30 pm. Then a high speed overloaded trolley carrying Maurang from Khurhand village of Girwan area hit him from behind near the canal bridge. In the accident, the teacher came under the trolley and died on the spot due to a wheel hitting his head.
Seeing the incident, people nearby started chasing the trolley. Seeing himself surrounded, the driver increased the speed of the trolley. About two kilometers ahead, near Nathu Pond on Oran Road, the trolley directly hit the e-rickshaw coming from the front. The collision was so severe that the e-rickshaw fell into a roadside ditch and broke completely.
In the accident, e-rickshaw rider Mubeen (40), Shahbaz (10), Mamta (48) and driver Rakesh (50) died on the spot. Sohanlal, his wife Bauri, daughters Shivkali, Shabana and his three-month old innocent daughter Safia were seriously injured. All the injured were immediately taken to Bisanda PHC, from where they were referred to the district hospital.
There was chaos in the area after the incident. Angry villagers blocked the Bisanda-Banda road and demanded compensation and action against overloaded vehicles. Administrative officials and police reached the spot, convinced the people and got the jam cleared after about two hours. Police have taken the trolley driver into custody and started further action.
