Against this backdrop, Khadi and Village Industries Commission Chairman Manoj Kumar has made an important announcement that a new and modern e-commerce portal for Khadi India products will soon be launched in the country. After sales of Rs 2 Lakh Crores last year, now a wealth of opportunities are going to open up for the general public, but with the government’s shopping portal, it is now possible to buy goods at even cheaper rates.

What is the special technology of this portal?

Chairman Manoj Kumar while discussing the technology and features of the new portal explained that the portal will be completely ‘mobile-first’ in nature. Customers will experience high-resolution imagery, improved payment options and impressive features like ‘Shop the Look’. Moreover, he also mentioned that the main objective of this portal is to effectively present the brand story to a global audience; And it has a special emphasis on attracting ‘Generation Z’.

Record figures in sales and production

Meanwhile, the financial year 2025-26 has seen a huge increase in sales of Khadi products. The sales reached a record high of ₹1,87,105 crore. Which is a significant increase from the figure of only ₹31,154 crore recorded in the year 2013-14. Moreover, as per various estimates, these sales are likely to cross the ₹2.51 lakh crore mark in FY 2026-27.

Increase in employment generation

The total employment generated from Khadi and Village Industries activities has increased from 1.30 crore in 2013-14 to 2.04 crore in 2025-26. In other words, compared to 2013-14, lakhs of people have been provided employment opportunities through the Khadi sector in the year 2025-26.

Contribution of Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme

Moreover, under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, 66,494 new units were set up during the year 2025-26. Through this initiative, 7,31,434 persons received golden employment opportunities. To facilitate this process, a ‘margin money’ grant of ₹2,457 crore has also been disbursed to the beneficiaries against a total loan of ₹7,375 crore.
