Southeast Asia’s second largest economy welcomes over 13 million tourists in 5 months
China remained the largest source of visitors to the kingdom with 2.23 million, followed by Malaysia with 1.5 million and India with 1 million, Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul said as quoted by Nation Thailand.
The tourism ministry said the Indian market had reached a key milestone, with total arrivals surpassing one million visitors.
School holidays in Malaysia and India also helped stimulate family travel to Thailand, contributing to the rise in visitor numbers during the period.
Tourism officials expect foreign tourist arrivals to rise further in the coming week, driven by several positive travel factors.
These include the long Eid al-Adha holiday observed across parts of the Middle East and Asia, improving energy conditions in Thailand with fuel prices stabilizing in line with global markets, and the rollout of tourism campaigns that help reinforce the country’s image as a safe destination for international travelers.
Thailand expects about 33.5 million foreign tourists this year, up from nearly 33 million visitors last year.
