Match officials announced for Women’s T20 World Cup, 4 Indian women get chance

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is to be played from 12th of next month. ICC has announced 18-member match officials for this tournament being held in England and Wales. The list, which is all women, includes four Indian match officials including match referee GS Lakshmi. Candace LaBord, Gayatri Venugopalan, Karin Klaste and Shathira Zakir Jessie will participate in this tournament for the first time. There are two other Indians in the list of umpires, Vrinda Rathi and Janani N.

 

ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta said, ‘This panel of match officials for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 reflects the ICC’s commitment to increasing representation in all aspects of the game.’ He further said that the ICC assesses its game officials and their decision-making performance in a comprehensive, holistic and evidence-based manner. In this World Cup, 14 umpires and four match referees will work during 33 matches, which also includes 9 members of the 2024 edition.

GS Lakshmi was the match referee in the last edition also

Australia’s Claire Polosak is the most experienced, who will participate in this tournament for the sixth time and has umpired in the first 22 matches. Jacqueline Williams and Kim Cotton have umpired in 19 matches each so far and both will look to record their fifth T20 World Cup in England and Wales. Three match referees Shandre Fritz, GS Lakshmi and Michelle Perera were also part of the 2024 edition. New Zealand’s Trudy Anderson has been included as the fourth referee. The Indian women’s team will start its campaign in the World Cup on June 14 against Pakistan.
