Big change in Delhi schools: Medical room and ‘menstruation corner’ will be built in every school.

On the occasion of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made several important announcements for the schools of the capital. The government now aims to give priority not only to education in schools but also to the health, cleanliness and safe environment of children.

The Chief Minister said that toilets equipped with clean and modern facilities will be prepared in all the schools of Delhi. Besides, regular hygiene awareness programs will be run among the students, so that both boys and girls can get the necessary information related to menstruation and hygiene.

The government has decided to create medical rooms and special “menstruation corners” in every school. Sanitary napkins, innerwear and other necessary materials will be provided in these corners. Apart from this, the process of installing sanitary pad vending machines in the washrooms of schools will also be expedited.

The Chief Minister also informed that school-wise data related to HPV vaccination will be prepared. At the same time, emphasis will be laid on increasing the participation of students of government schools by connecting them with the “Flight of Courage” program.

A toll-free helpline number will also be released soon for students and parents to directly address their problems to the government. This number will be placed on the walls and main gate of the schools so that anyone can easily give complaints or suggestions.

Along with this, Delhi government has announced to install RO water coolers in all schools and run a large-scale tree plantation campaign from June 5 to August. Special attention will also be given to improving whiteness, cleanliness and basic facilities in schools. The government believes that these steps will make the school environment more safe, clean and student friendly, which will benefit both the health and education of children.
