Haryana News: Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini participated as the chief guest in the national conference related to horticulture held in Karnal and shared his views before farmers, scientists and researchers. In this conference organized in the campus of CSSRI, scientists, researchers and agricultural experts from every corner of the country gathered on one platform.
Opportunity to write a new chapter of the future
The Chief Minister said that he is feeling happy and satisfied by attending this conference. He congratulated the Maharana Pratap Horticultural University family, scientists and researchers for this event. Saini described this as an opportunity to write a new chapter in the future of India’s agriculture and horticulture.
Production and quality in horticultural crops
He said that 14 Horticulture Science Centers are being dedicated to this university by the state government, which will play an important role in providing latest technologies and quality plant material to the farmers and providing scientific advice. The Chief Minister said that disease-free and certified plant material can increase both production and quality in horticultural crops by 30 to 40 percent.
India is the second largest producer in the world
Saini also said that developed countries give top priority to seed security and quality of planting material in their agricultural policy. India is the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world, with horticulture production of over 360 million tonnes annually. He said that Haryana has led the country in the Green Revolution.

The Chief Minister said that crop diversification and horticulture based agricultural models are emerging as the path to the prosperity of farmers in the future. Today many farmers of Haryana are getting many times more yields than traditional agriculture through drip irrigation, polyhouse, net house, high density plantation and tissue culture based farming.
Formation of 778 farmer producer groups
Saini also mentioned the welfare schemes run for the benefit of farmers in the horticulture sector. He informed that under the Bhavantar Compensation Scheme for vegetables and fruits, protected prices have been fixed for 21 horticulture crops. Apart from this, 778 farmer producer groups have been formed for grading, storage and marketing of fruits and vegetables, in which 1 lakh 25 thousand farmers have been added.

The Chief Minister said that in the budget of this financial year, a provision has been made to bring a total area of 1000 acres under smart horticulture techniques in all the districts. He stressed that we have to develop such seeds and plant material which give more production in less water, are disease resistant, more nutritious and are compatible with the changing climate.

Saini also said that quality fruits and vegetables are not just a source of income for farmers but are the cornerstone of a healthy society. He clarified that the real revolution happens only when the research done in the laboratory reaches the fields.
New direction for the country’s horticulture policy
Underlining the importance of the conference, the Chief Minister said that the brainstorming in this national conference will give a new direction to the horticulture policy of the country, will take research to new heights and will open new doors in the interest of crores of farmers.
