Actress Kajol has done many tremendous films in her career. But very few people know that the actress’s father Shomu Mukherjee wanted to name her Mercedes and not Kajol. But Kajol’s mother intervened. Then how did Kajol get her name?

Kajol was to be named after the car

In an interview given to Mashable India, Kajol had told the story of naming her after a luxury car. When asked if it was true that Shomu Mukherjee wanted to name his daughter Mercedes, Kajol said, ‘Yes, he wanted to, he tried very hard, but my mother looked at him and said, ‘No!’

What did the actress say?

Kajol further said, ‘Actually, the strange thing is that this was written in his (Shomu Mukherjee’s) mother’s diary. My grandmother had a diary in which she had written the names of all her children. He had written the names of all his sons and daughters in it and whatever idea came to his mind to name his children, he had written it all. She used to call my father ‘Kajol da’. That’s how I got the name Kajol.

When did Kajol’s father die?

Shomu Mukherjee died due to heart attack in 2008. The actress says that she was very close to her father and both loved each other very much.
