Trump’s old controversy took a new turn, investigation started on the woman who made the allegation

New Delhi: The biggest news of this time is coming out from America’s politics. Former columnist E. Jean Carroll, who made serious allegations of sexual harassment against President Donald Trump, now seems to be in legal trouble herself. The US Justice Department has started an investigation against Carroll. According to reports in the New York Times and CNN, the investigation focuses on whether Carroll gave false testimony in court during his two previous civil cases filed against Trump.

What is the whole matter of false testimony?

A statement given during the hearing of the case in 2022 has been made the main basis of this investigation. At that time, 82-year-old E. Jean Carroll had sworn in before the court and said that he was not getting any financial help from outside to fight this battle. Legal documents later revealed that LinkedIn co-founder and billionaire businessman Reid Hoffman had paid a large portion of Carroll’s court fees and other legal expenses.

Questions are being raised regarding action against opponents

This new criminal investigation is being headed by Andrew S., a federal prosecutor for the Northern District of Illinois. Botros is taking over. He was appointed by Donald Trump himself. US Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has completely distanced himself from this case. He has previously been Trump’s personal lawyer in cases.

Legal experts and opposition leaders are strongly criticizing this move by the Trump administration to use the Justice Department against its opponents and critics. He believes that this investigation is completely politically motivated.

Dispute over millions of dollars in damages

E. Jean Carroll had alleged that in 1996, Donald Trump had sexually assaulted her in the dressing room of a famous department store in New York. In this case, the jury held Trump civilly responsible. After this, Trump completely rejected these allegations and called Carroll ‘not my type’.

Carroll filed a second defamation case against him. The court held Trump guilty and ordered Carroll to pay huge compensation of $83.3 million, which Trump has challenged in the higher court.
