Pune (Maharashtra), 29 May. In Maharashtra, 17 people have died in a single day after drinking poisonous liquor in Pune and surrounding areas – Hadapsar, Dapodi and Phugewadi, while the condition of many others is said to be critical, who are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

Yogesh Wankhede, who supplied poisonous spirits, arrested

The State Excise Department has arrested Yogesh Wankhede in this case. Police is interrogating him. Initial investigation has revealed that Wankhede was supplying poisonous spirit in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune areas.

It is suspected that people died after drinking liquor made from this spirit. It is being told that when the situation became serious after several deaths, Yogesh Wankhede himself surrendered before the authorities.

CM Fadnavis ordered investigation into the incident

Meanwhile, CM Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an investigation into this incident. The possibility of involvement of other people in this case cannot be ruled out, hence the investigating agencies are looking for clues in many directions.

Demand for strict action against those responsible

At present, an atmosphere of fear has spread in the entire area due to the incident and people are demanding strict action against those responsible. At the same time, the people of Phugewadi and Dapodi have demanded to reveal the truth as soon as possible. Serious questions have been raised about the accountability of both the administration and the police regarding the deaths in Dapodi and Phugewadi areas spread across Hadapsar and Pimpri-Chinchwad city.

Locals have blamed all these deaths on the illegal, poisonous country liquor produced at the Ban Backyard Distillery. People allege that illegal sale of country liquor is happening on a large scale in the area and anger is increasing over the alleged negligence of the police in this illegal business.

NCP leader and former mayor Yogesh Bahl demanded a fair investigation

The political atmosphere has also heated up after the incident. NCP leader and former mayor Yogesh Bahal has demanded a complete and impartial investigation into the matter. He has demanded strict action against the culprits and urged the authorities to stop such illegal activities.

However, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police has presented a different view on the matter. Police claim that out of the eight deaths in Pimpri-Chinchwad, five had different reasons. Nevertheless, information has come to light which shows that many of those who died had symptoms of extreme dizziness before death.

MLA Rohit Pawar’s attack on police commissioner

Meanwhile, regarding the alleged poisonous liquor incident, MLA Rohit Pawar said that the local police commissioner is just a ‘rubber-stamp’ officer, who does nothing except carry out the orders given by his senior officers.

He said that ever since the Commissioner assumed office, incidents of people being attacked with sickles on the streets in broad daylight have become common. Apart from this, an order has been imposed to ban the gathering of people here, even though there were no circumstances to do so.
