Kieran Trippier agrees Wolves move after Newcastle exit

Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a deal to sign former Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier on a free transfer following his departure from St James’ Park this summer.

The experienced England international has agreed a two-year contract with Wolves, with an option to extend his stay for a further season. Medical tests are expected to take place soon before the move is officially completed.

Trippier leaves Newcastle after playing a major role in the club’s recent rise under Eddie Howe. The 35-year-old became one of the key leaders inside the dressing room and helped Newcastle qualify for the UEFA Champions League during his spell at the club.

Wolves moved quickly to secure the defender’s signature after he became available as a free agent. The Premier League side sees Trippier as an important addition because of his experience, leadership qualities, and ability to play in multiple defensive roles.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid full-back still brings quality in possession and remains one of the strongest set-piece specialists in English football. Wolves believe his arrival can add stability and guidance to a relatively young squad ahead of the new season.

Trippier has made more than 50 appearances for England and was part of the national side that reached the final of UEFA Euro 2020. His experience at the highest level is expected to be valuable for Wolves both on and off the pitch.
