Main figures and reason for controversy
For the first time in the history of CBSE Board, almost every fourth student has demanded to check their copy. This time a record total of 4,04,319 students have applied to see their answer sheets. Students have demanded digital scanned copies of lakhs i.e. a total of 11,31,961 answer sheets. Apart from this, questions are constantly being raised by students and parents on the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Students and parents allege that blurred copies were checked in a hurry, mistakes were made in adding up the marks and zero marks were given even to the correct answers.
Corrective steps taken by CBSE
In view of the increasing anger and distrust of students and parents, the Education Ministry and the Board have come into damage control mode and taken these steps. The board has significantly reduced the application fee for re-evaluation so that all students can apply without any financial burden. Apart from this, the government has also made changes in the payment gateway after the problems faced during depositing fees and server failure recently.

The government has assured to make this post-result process more transparent and accountable with technical support from top institutions like IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras. According to this rule, only those students who have received the scanned copy of their answer sheet in the first phase are eligible for this re-evaluation. However, this process can be done only for theory based subjects. For this re-evaluation, applications will be accepted only once for each subject. For this, students can directly visit the official website of CBSE (cbse.gov.in) and apply online through the re-evaluation window.
