Religious significance of Jyeshtha Adhik Maas Purnima

It is believed that bathing, chanting, penance and charity done on the full moon brings manifold benefits. Taking bath in Ganga or any holy river on this day is considered very auspicious. Also, by donating to the needy, the Moon in the horoscope gets strengthened and one gets mental peace. Donating things like white clothes, rice, sugar, curd, milk or silver on the day of full moon is considered auspicious.

Worship method of Purnima fast
On the day of full moon, wake up in the morning in Brahma Muhurta and take bath and offer water to the rising sun. After this, take a pledge of fasting with Akshat, water and betel nut in hand. For puja, clean the home temple or place of worship and spread red and yellow cloth on a post. Install the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu on yellow cloth and Goddess Lakshmi on red cloth. After this, start the puja as per the rituals and offer red, yellow and white flowers to the Lord. If possible, offer lotus flower to Goddess Lakshmi. It is considered auspicious to offer Makhana kheer, Panjiri or sweets made from ghee during the puja. After this, perform Aarti of Lakshmi-Narayan and listen to the fast story. Offering water to the Moon and worshiping it in the evening is also considered extremely fruitful.
