‘No matter what happens, we will not give up Namaz…’, Asaduddin Owaisi’s biggest statement on the controversy of Namaz on the streets.
Amidst the heated debate going on in the country regarding offering Namaz on the streets, a very harsh and big statement of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has come to light. During a program on Friday (29 May 2026), Hyderabad MP Owaisi said in blunt words that Muslims are being deliberately targeted in the country. He alleged that every time the religious matters of Muslims are dragged into the subject of controversy, which is completely wrong.
Reminded of the contribution of Muslims in the freedom struggle
During his address, Owaisi turned the pages of history and remembered the contribution of the Muslim community in India’s freedom struggle. He said that many Muslim scholars and religious leaders had risked their lives to liberate the country from the slavery of the British. Taking names of many big Islamic scholars including Allama Fazal-e-Haq Khairabadi, Owaisi said that these people fought hard against the British and made their sacrifices. Expressing sadness, he said that today sacred subjects like Azaan and Namaz are being made a political issue by forgetting the heritage and history of such great people.
Raising questions on the current system of the country, the Hyderabad MP said that during many religious pilgrimages, Kanwar Yatras and big processions in India, entire roads are closed, huge tents are put up and very grand events are organized, but then no one has any objection. On the other hand, when prayers are offered for a short time at some places on Friday or on the occasion of Eid, it is made the biggest issue of the country. Owaisi said that India is such a beautiful country where festivals of almost all religions are celebrated with great pomp in public places, hence it is not right to target only Muslims for this.
Muslims will offer Namaz under any circumstances, accused of double standards
Giving a strong message to the opponents, Owaisi said that no matter how much criticism or pressure is applied, Muslims will never stop offering Namaz. While sharing an interesting incident, he said that some people had recently come to meet him and he told Owaisi that after watching the hate debates going on on TV channels, he has started going to the mosque more regularly and now he is offering Namaz with restrictions.
AIMIM chief made serious allegations of double standards being adopted in the country. He said that people have no problem with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speeches and rallies, but immediate objection is raised to the sound of Azaan and Namaz. He also questioned the country’s dietary restrictions, saying that on certain religious occasions the sale of eggs, meat and chicken is forcibly banned, while in other cases there appear to be no such restrictions.
Mentioned incidents like Turkman Gate and Nelly
In his speech, Owaisi also mentioned some dark chapters of history like the painful incidents of Turkman Gate, Maliana, Hashimpura and Nellie. He said that despite facing such difficult circumstances, oppression and violence, the Muslims of India have stood strong in this country and will remain here in future also. He proudly said that India is his country as much as anyone else’s and he is not going anywhere from here.
Citing the Constitution, Owaisi said that Article 25 of the Indian Constitution gives complete freedom to all citizens to practice and propagate their religion. He said that if offering Namaz on the road is considered wrong and illegal, then the same rule should be applied to public and street events of all religions in the country. Talking about equality, Owaisi said that if meat shops are closed during festivals of any other religion, then on the basis of the same equality, liquor vends should also be completely closed during the holy month of Ramzan.
Gave a befitting reply to CM Yogi Adityanath’s statement
Owaisi said in simple words that our Constitution gives everyone freedom of expression and opinion, but in today’s environment some people get upset just by seeing the sound of Azaan and Muslim identity. Let us tell you that this sharp statement of Owaisi has come just after the recent statement of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in which CM Yogi had said that Namaz should be offered on the streets in a systematic manner and if necessary, it can be organized in different shifts or groups. The Chief Minister had made it clear that the UP administration will ensure strict adherence to the rules and will take every necessary step to maintain law and order.
