Karnataka: DK Shivakumar elected Congress Legislature Party leader, will take oath as 24th Chief Minister on June 3
Bengaluru, 30 May. The way has been cleared for the coronation of the 24th Chief Minister in the southern state of Karnataka. In this sequence, two days after Siddaramaiah stepped down from the post on the instructions of the Congress high command, DK Shivakumar was unanimously elected leader in the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting on Saturday. He will take oath as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3 at Lok Bhavan.
Acting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made the official announcement at a meeting held in the conference hall on the third floor of Vidhana Soudha that DK Shivakumar has been elected as the leader of the Karnataka Congress Legislature Party.
Swearing in ceremony will be held in the glass house of Lok Bhavan
As far as oath taking is concerned, earlier it was being said that Shivkumar will take oath in Vidhana Soudha. But after the meeting, Congress officially announced that the oath taking ceremony will take place in the Glass House of Lok Bhavan.
Acting CM Siddaramaiah proposed the name of DK Shivakumar
Earlier, in the Karnataka Congress Legislature Party meeting, acting CM Siddaramaiah proposed the name of DK Shivakumar as the new leader. Dr. G Parameshwara supported his proposal. After that all the MLAs unanimously gave their support in the name of Shivkumar.
The CLP meeting was held, and the meeting unanimously authorized the Congress High Command to nominate a leader for the Karnataka Congress Legislative Party.
After discussion, the High Command suggested the name of Shri @DKShivakumar as the new CLP leader.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal later announced the election of DK Shivakumar as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party at a press conference. Earlier, Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, while starting the proceedings, said that the process of electing the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party will proceed with Siddaramaiah’s proposal.
Siddaramaiah moved a one-line resolution stating that the matter of choosing the new legislature party leader was left to the discretion of the AICC. God supported it and all the MLAs supported it by raising their hands. After that, Congress General Secretary Surjewala again announced a break of 10 minutes. During this, Siddaramaiah, Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala held discussions in the Chief Minister’s chamber. After the break the election of the new leader was completed.

Shivkumar went to Raj Bhavan and staked claim to form government
After this, newly elected leader DK Shivakumar moved a resolution praising the services of outgoing leader Siddaramaiah during his tenure as Chief Minister and sought the support of the MLAs. It was approved unanimously in the meeting. After the meeting, DK Shivkumar went straight to Raj Bhavan and staked claim to form the government.
