Woodcutters are running saws on banned trees.

Sakran: In the village of Sakran police station area, woodcutters have boldly done illegal cutting of banned jamun trees. This widespread felling has posed a serious threat to the local environment. The big jamun tree has recently been cut down with a saw. Jamun trees come under protected category under the rules of the forest department. Written permission of the Forest Department is mandatory for their cutting, but in the village of Sakran police station area, woodcutters are openly cutting these trees without any fear.

According to local sources, this is not the first incident. Such illegal felling has been going on in the area for the past several days. Due to the indifference of the forest department and the police administration, the courage of illegal loggers is increasing. Expressing concern, local people said that if prevention is not done in time, the forests of the entire area will be cleared. Jamun trees are not only fruit producing but also play an important role in preventing soil erosion, maintaining underground water level and preserving biodiversity.

Their harvesting on a large scale increases the possibility of environmental imbalance, water crisis and loss of biodiversity in the area. Local residents have demanded the administration to take immediate cognizance and take strict legal action against the culprits. Now it remains to be seen how quickly the Forest Department and Sakran police station take action against this environmental crime.
