West Bengal: Just a day earlier, a mob attacked TMC MP—and nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee—Abhishek Banerjee; Since then, the situation has remained tense. Now, on Sunday, another prominent TMC leader, Kalyan Banerjee, has been targeted in an attack. Reports indicate that he sustained an injury to his head.

Kalyan Banerjee was attacked in front of the Chanditala Police Station, located in the Hooghly district. With a wet handkerchief pressed against his head, Kalyan Banerjee alleged that he was assaulted while on his way to submit a memorandum at the Chanditala police station. Expressing his outrage over the incident, he stated that people attempting to register their protest through democratic means were subjected to an attack.

Tension Grips the Region

The attacks—first on Abhishek Banerjee, and now on fellow TMC MP and senior leader Kalyan Banerjee—have raised serious questions regarding the state of law and order. These incidents have fueled tension across the region. Police forces have been deployed to the scene. Kalyan Banerjee was on his way to submit a memorandum demanding the release of arrested leaders and party workers.

Even before the memorandum could be submitted, a heated exchange of slogans erupted between Trinamool and BJP workers. BJP workers chanted “Chor, Chor” (Thieves! Thieves!) against the Trinamool supporters, causing the atmosphere to become even more volatile. A heavy contingent of local police and central security forces has been deployed to the spot to handle any potential untoward incidents.
