IPL 2026 Final: Josh Hazlewood spoils Shubman Gill’s plan, Vaibhav Suryavanshi gets silver

Josh Hazlewood Dismissed GT Captain Shubman Gill: RCB fast bowler Josh Hazlewood dismissed Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill for 10 runs in the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 31. Gill welcomed the Australian fast bowler by hitting a four on the very first ball of his first over, and he was out immediately after that. This was the third over of the first innings.

Hazlewood surprises Gill

This fast bowler bowled the ‘back-of-a-length’ ball outside the off-stump at a speed of 142 kilometers per hour. Gill tried to hit the ball by moving forward to play a big shot, but the ball did not hit the bat properly and went towards mid-on. RCB captain Rajat Patidar took a brilliant catch while running and dismissed Gill. Virat Kohli looked very excited by this opening wicket.

Flop show in playoff against RCB

Even in Qualifier-1 of IPL 2026, Shubman Gill could not do anything special with the bat against RCB and was out after scoring only 2 runs. Titans lost that match by 92 runs, due to which they had to play Qualifier-2 against Rajasthan Royals and made it to the final in the second attempt. However, after this Gill played a brilliant inning of 104 runs against RR and ended his journey with a total of 732 runs in this season.

Even Sai Sudarshan did not survive

After this, thanks to the brilliant bowling of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, RCB dismissed the second opener Sai Sudarshan, who was in GT form. Sudarshan was out after scoring 12 runs (who had played 12 balls), when wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma took a brilliant catch while running, leaving the hosts 26/2 in 3.4 overs.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi benefited

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has got the biggest benefit from the cheap disposal of Gujarat Titans openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan in the final of IPL 2026, because due to this the young opener from Rajasthan captured the Orange Cap in the 19th season of the Indian Premier League. Vaibhav scored 776 runs in 16 matches, while Shubhman Gill could only score 732 and Sai Sudarshan could score only 722.
