Pop star Son Tung M-TP’s ‘Come My Way’ becomes YouTube’s second most-viewed video

On Friday, 15 hours after its release, the video had garnered over 10 million views and nearly 900,000 likes on his YouTube channel.

According to music data tracker Kworbthe song ranked second after only “OMG!” by South Korean boy band Alpha Drive One.

Viewers praised the production of the music video, which was filmed in various locations including UNESCO heritage site Trang An in Ninh Binh Province and downtown Los Angeles.

Its director, Phuong Vu, incorporated folk cultural elements such as Lac birds, Ly Dynasty dragon motifs, and the Bay Nui bull-racing festival in An Giang Province.

But on Threads, several users claimed that Son Tung’s English pronunciation sounded unnatural.

The song draws influence from Afrobeats, a West African genre that blends hip-hop and contemporary pop, and features auto-tune effects in several segments. Vietnamese singer Y KRoc thought the video has an international feel though the melody and lyrics “clearly reflect a V-pop mindset.”

The song was co-written by Son Tung and producer Marvey Muzique. The all-English lyrics were written by Marvey Muzique and American rapper Tyga. The track describes a man whose life is changed by a woman: “Call me your prisoner/ I’m jailed in your love I ain’t coming out.”

Son Tung’s media representative said the MV marks the next step in the singer’s efforts to expand internationally. The Thai Binh Province native, real name Nguyen Thanh Tung, 32, rose to fame in 2011 with the song “Con Mua Ngang Qua” (The Passing Rain).
