IPL 2026 : The journey of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 ended with the title win of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday. In the final match, RCB won the trophy by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets. With this thrilling finish, IPL 2026 has proved to be the biggest ‘runfest’ (festival of runs) in the history of the league. The batsmen had such dominance throughout this season that many historical records were destroyed.

Record breaking season of batting milestones
IPL 2026 was a season where many big batting milestones were made in the history of cricket. In this entire tournament, a total of 27,450 runs were scored by all the teams, which is the record for the highest number of runs in a single edition. Apart from this, the run-per-wicket ratio this season was 31.26 and the highest run rate (RPO) of 9.88 per over was recorded.

The barrage of fours and sixes hit by the batsmen in this season thrilled the spectators. A total of 2,332 fours and a record 1,426 sixes were hit in the tournament. Talking about individual performance, a record 15 centuries were scored in this season, in which Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Sanju Samson was the only player who scored two centuries.

Talking about the title match, Gujarat Titans (GT), batting first, scored 155/8 runs in 20 overs. For Gujarat, only Washington Sundar (50 not out in 37 balls) and Nishant Sindhu (20 in 18 balls) could cross the 20-run mark. RCB bowlers Rasikh Dar Salaam (3/27), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/29) and Josh Hazlewood (2/37) bowled brilliantly.

In reply, RCB made a strong start with an opening partnership of 62 runs between Venkatesh Iyer (32 runs) and Virat Kohli. Gujarat bowlers tried to make a comeback in the middle order and RCB’s score was 132/5. But ‘King’ Virat Kohli led RCB to victory with two overs remaining by playing an unbeaten captaincy inning of 75 runs in 42 balls. This is RCB’s second IPL win and the franchise’s fourth cricket trophy overall, adding to its two Women’s Premier League (WPL) titles.
