India-Oman CEPA implemented, first consignments of agricultural and gem products leave for Oman

New Delhi. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Oman has come into force from Monday. After the implementation of the agreement on Monday, about 10 consignments of agricultural and gems and jewelery products from Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai were sent to the Gulf country under preferential rates. This agreement between the two countries was signed in Muscat on December 18, 2025.

The Union Commerce and Industry Minister told reporters here that the agreement will benefit domestic exporters in sectors such as textiles, leather, plastics, marine products, automobiles, sporting goods and agricultural products as they will get preferential access to the Oman market over competitors.

India-Oman CEPA is opening new doors of opportunities for Indian industry, MSMEs, farmers, women and all other sections including the AYUSH sector. Along with this, zero duty, increasing exports and strengthening global partnerships, this is becoming the new identity of self-reliant India today.

Goyal said the Indian government is promoting export-led growth by reducing dependence on imports amid uncertainties in global trade and the proposed FTA with Oman is part of this policy.

Regarding the question asked on India-US internal trade agreement, he said that 99 percent of the work has been completed. He said that talks will be held with the American team between June 2 and 4.

Goyal said discussions between the two sides will continue till June 4 to resolve some remaining issues before the formal announcement of the agreement.

Oman is India’s second largest trading partner in the Gulf region and serves as a strategic gateway to the broader GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) market through its state-of-the-art port infrastructure.

Bilateral trade between India and Oman to reach $11.18 billion in FY 2025-26 from $10.61 billion in FY 2024-25. Now bilateral trade is expected to double and cross $20 billion.
