Raakh trailer: Here’s why THIS crime thriller could be Ali Fazal’s most intense role yet
On Monday (1 June 2026), the makers unveiled the trailer for Ali Fazal and Sonali Bendre’s new crime thriller show Raakh.
The series, directed by Prosit Roy, who also directed Paatal Lok’s first season, stars Aamir Bashir, Akash Makhija, Ramandeep Yadav, Divya Sharma, Vivaan Sharma, Anshul Chauhan, Rakesh Bedi, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in major parts. Anusha Nandakumar developed, co-directed, and wrote the script, with Ayush Trivedi providing the dialogue.
The teaser establishes the show’s gloomy universe, which takes place in 1970s Delhi. Heinous crimes hit the city as children are kidnapped, and sub-inspector Jayprakash (Fazal) is assigned the case. Sonali portrays the mother of a victim who demands justice.
Jayprakash appears to have a strained connection with his father, played by Rakesh Bedi, as the two are seen bickering about how to handle the situation. The series promises to be an intriguing criminal thriller that delves into the darkest aspects of the human psyche.
Ali Fazal has deliberately strayed from traditional romance leads in favour of darker stories over the years. His role as Guddu Pandit in the television series Mirzapur made him one of the most recognisable figures in India’s crime drama milieu. The part exemplified his abilities to convey wrath, trauma, and vulnerability, winning him considerable praise.
He delved further into intense storytelling with films like Khufiya and Death on the Nile, demonstrating his comfort in suspense-driven scenarios where people are rarely black and white. Rather than relying on celebrity, Fazal has established a reputation for selecting topics that push him emotionally and psychologically.
With Raakh, the actor seemed to be moving deeper into that realm. Unlike the fearless protagonists featured in classic cop dramas, his character appears naive and overwhelmed by the atrocities happening around him.
The teaser suggests a protagonist battling not only a violent killer but also the psychological and emotional toll of the inquiry.
As fans continue to prefer sophisticated crime thrillers, Raakh could solidify Ali Fazal’s reputation as one of the genre’s most consistent actors. More importantly, it shows an actor who is unafraid to play flawed, tormented individuals whose journeys are frequently as captivating as the mysteries they strive to solve.
Speaking about the series, Fazal said in a statement, “When I was first approached for Raakh, I expected it to be a conventional investigative crime thriller, but the moment I read the script, I was drawn in. Anusha, Sandeep and Prosit have woven a story that is layered, emotionally intense, and packed with gritty realism.”
Raakh, produced by Endemol Shine India and BhaDiPa, will be available on Prime Video on June 12.
