Vaibhav Suryavanshi winning the Orange Cap was no coincidence, he had already thought that he would score 700 runs.
Desk. Before the start of IPL 2026, hardly anyone would have imagined that a mere 15-year-old boy would surprise the entire cricket world by winning the Orange Cap. But Vaibhav Suryavanshi not only lived up to the expectations, but also gave a performance that made him the biggest star of the tournament. The young batsman of Rajasthan Royals won the Orange Cap by scoring 776 runs in IPL 2026. The special thing is that this success was no coincidence. Vaibhav has revealed that even before the start of the tournament, he had set a target of scoring 700 runs and had written it down in his phone.
While talking to Star Sports after the IPL 2026 final, Vaibhav Suryavanshi told that he used to remember his goal after every match. He said, he used to keep notes on the phone and even before the start of the season, he had written that he would score 700 runs in this IPL. After every match he would look at that note and remind himself of his goal. This was the reason why Vaibhav was seen batting with a different confidence throughout the season.
At the age of 15, Vaibhav faced the challenge of world class bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada. Many people doubted how this batsman, who shone at the U19 level, would perform on a big stage like IPL. But Vaibhav answered all the questions with the bat. He scored 776 runs in 16 matches, which included one century and five half-centuries. His average was 48.50 and strike rate of 237.31, which was among the best batsmen of the tournament.
Even though Rajasthan Royals could not reach the finals after losing to Gujarat Titans in Qualifier-2, Vaibhav Suryavanshi captured many big records including the Orange Cap. Vaibhav hit 72 sixes in the entire season, which is the record for the most number of sixes hit by any batsman in a season in IPL history.
