The FIFA World Cup: Alphonso to lead Canada despite being injured:

Read, Digital Desk : Canada revealed the FIFA World Cup squad Friday night in Toronto where all the matches kick off on June 11th, co-hosted by America, Canada and Mexico.Despite being injured Alphonso Davies has been named in the squad and will lead the nation as captain.

But it is unclear whether he will recover in time for the opening group game because of a hamstring problem that Davies suffered in Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final clash against PSG.

Nonetheless, coach Jesse Marsch was prepared to gamble on Davies for the nation’s training camp for the squad this week which also included the inclusion of the team’s captain for all of their 32-man squad. He was absent when the rest of the team assembled for their training session earlier this week and instead opted to remain in Germany to focus on recovery from the injury picked up earlier in the month. The squad also has other world class talent in the form of Juventus striker Jonathan David, Cyle Larin (Southampton forward) and midfielder Tajon Buchanan (Villarreal).

Canada is the 30th best ranked country in the world, and they are expected to play every one of their group games at home. Their World Cup campaign gets under way on June 12th where they face Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto.
