Ranveer Singh and ‘Don 3’ controversy: The ongoing dispute between famous Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and his film ‘Don 3’ has now entered the legal process. Senior filmmaker TP Aggarwal has filed a petition in the Bombay Civil Court, Dindoshi, in which he has questioned the practice of film industry bodies banning an artiste and issuing non-cooperation directions.

TP Aggarwal has filed a petition against the Federation of Western India Cine Employees and the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association. He says that no trade body or individual has the right to direct industry members not to work with a particular person.

The petition also said that such restrictions violate the principles of professional independence and fair functioning. The court has issued notice to FWICE and IMPPA and sought their reply. The matter came to light when FWICE issued non-cooperation direction against Ranveer Singh. The directive came after the ongoing dispute with Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment production company over ‘Don 3’.
Ranveer Singh was to play the lead role in this film, but due to some issues the project got stalled. TP Aggarwal is an eminent name in the Hindi film industry. He presided over IMPPA for 17 years and was elected four times to the post of President of the Film Federation of India. Presently, he is the Patron of both the organizations. He says that for decades, industry organizations have been playing an important role in resolving disputes and maintaining discipline, but now questions are being raised on the legal validity of steps like blanket ban and boycott.

Aggarwal’s petition also makes it clear that no organization can put pressure on its members to work with any artist or not. This adversely affects the livelihood and career of artists.
