- Team management in action mode
The 19th season of Indian Premier League 2026 is over. Royal Challengers Bangalore have created history by winning two consecutive IPL trophies. Rajat Patidar, who joined the team as a substitute, led the team to success as captain. Now he is almost certain to lead RCB for the next few seasons. But on the other hand, many teams are talking about changing their captains. In IPL 2026, Rishabh Pant’s disappointing performance by Lucknow Super Giants led Pant to criticism. After this he voluntarily resigned as captain. According to media reports, several teams may consider changing captains before IPL 2027.

Rishabh Pant quits the leadership of Lucknow
This season was very disappointing for Lucknow Super Giants. Under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, the team won only four out of 14 matches and finished at the bottom of the points table. Pant’s performance as a batsman also deteriorated. He made several changes to the batting order throughout the season. In particular, the decision to send Nicholas Pooran up the order failed. After all the matches, Pant faced criticism. After this he voluntarily resigned as captain.
Crisis on Hardik Pandya too
Mumbai Indians (MI) handed over the captaincy to Hardik Pandya with high expectations after removing Rohit Sharmala, who won five trophies. In his first season as captain, he led Gujarat Titans to victory and reached the final for the second time. However, the performance for Mumbai Indians did not go as expected. There have also been reports of some senior players not following the coach’s strategy leading to rifts in the team. Therefore, it is expected that Hardik will be removed from the captaincy before the next season. He can also be released from the team.
Akshar Patel
Delhi Capitals handed over the reins of the team to Akshar Patel. But his captaincy was not effective. Even though Delhi Capitals stayed in the playoff race till the end, the equation was difficult. Delhi won 7 out of 14 matches but failed to qualify for the playoffs. Both Akshar’s bowling and batting remained disappointing. He took only 11 wickets in 13 matches. So Delhi may consider a new captain next season.
Signs of change in KKR too
Kolkata Knight Riders replaced Shreyas Iyer with Ajinkya Rahane as captain. But the team did not get the expected success under his leadership. KKR finished seventh in the points table this year. The 37-year-old Rahane has scored 335 runs in 14 matches, but the team can either remove the 37-year-old from the captaincy or release him before next season.
