A major development has come to the fore amid ongoing preparations for government employees’ pay and pension reforms. Responding to the demands of employee associations, unions and stakeholders, the Eighth Central Pay Commission panel has extended the deadline for submission of representations. This deadline, which was originally on 31 May 2026, has now been extended to 15 June 2026. This is the second and final opportunity given by the Commission, after which no extension will be granted. of the Eighth Pay Commission The decision will directly affect approximately 5 million central government employees and over 65 lakh retired pensioners across the country. This includes Defense Force personnel and their retirees. Unions can use this extended time to prepare detailed submissions on wage revisions, fitment factors, allowances and pension restructuring.

Applications will be accepted through online portal only

By the Eighth Pay Commission Clarified that, the applications will be accepted online only through their official website. It should be noted that suggestions submitted through physical copy, hard copy, email or PDF will not be considered. Stakeholders have to visit the portal and upload their submission only after OTP verification.

Consultation meetings and a unique memo ID are required. The Commission will visit various parts of the country in the coming months. Meetings are scheduled for July 6-7 in Bhubaneswar and July 9-10 in Kolkata. To attend these meetings, stakeholders must have a unique Memo ID, which will be generated only after submitting the online statement. Therefore, it is very important to submit the statement by June 15.

Along with the submission process, the Commission is touring various states to meet the employee unions and listen to their demands. Meetings are scheduled in several locations over the next few days:

  • Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh – June 1-4 (Srinagar/Jammu) and June 8 in Ladakh
  • Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow) – 22-23 June
  • Odisha (Bhubaneswar) – July 6-7
  • West Bengal (Kolkata) – July 9-10

  • Increase in basic pay from Rs.18,000 to Rs.69,000 per month
  • Increasing fitment factor from 2.57 to 3.83 in 7th Pay Commission
  • Increasing the annual salary increment from 3% to 6%
