UP Energy Minister Arvind Sharma’s instructions – Electricity department contract workers should not be fired from their jobs

Lucknow2 June. In view of the acute shortage of manpower in Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, Uttar Pradesh Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma has directed that contractual workers should not be fired at any cost. The Energy Minister gave this instruction during the review meeting of the Electricity Department at Sangam Auditorium in Lucknow on Tuesday. He made a detailed review of the status of uninterrupted power supply in the state, resolution of power disruptions arising after the storm and resolution of consumer complaints.

It is noteworthy that after the retrenchment of thousands of outsourced workers in the last few months, there is now a huge shortage of employees in the Power Corporation. This is the reason why the breakdown which earlier could be repaired in an hour, is now taking three to four hours to restore. The pressure of work on each employee is equal to that of four employees. In such a situation, accidents are also increasing.

During the review meeting, Arvind Sharma received information from all the Managing Directors (MDs) regarding the problems arising due to the storm, damage caused to the power infrastructure and the progress of their disposal. He gave clear instructions that uninterrupted and quality electricity supply should be ensured in all areas of the state. Along with this, if electrical interruption occurs anywhere, it should be resolved immediately.

Investigation will be done against Siddharthnagar Executive Engineer Gyan Prakash

Complaints received from public representatives were also reviewed in the meeting. Taking the complaints related to Siddharthnagar seriously, the Minister directed to investigate the complaints received against Executive Engineer Gyan Prakash and take necessary action. He said that the complaints of public representatives and common citizens should not be ignored at all.

The interests of contract workers should also be taken care of.

During the discussion on the issue related to contract workers, Minister AK Sharma expressed his displeasure over the complaints of contract workers being removed from work and gave clear instructions to the officials that no contract worker should be fired without any proper reason. He said that contract workers have an important role in maintaining the smooth operation of the electricity system. Their interests should also be taken care of.

The Energy Minister, while reviewing the development works of the Electricity Department proposed from the MLA fund, directed the officials to accelerate these projects. Said that all development works should be completed in a time bound manner, keeping in mind the expectations of the public representatives and the needs of the public. UPPCL MD Nitish Kumar and other officials were physically present in the meeting while Additional Chief Secretary Energy Ashish Goyal and Managing Directors of all DISCOMs attended the meeting through virtual medium.
