Malviya Nagar Fire Incident: Order for high level investigation into Malviya Nagar fire incident, Mayor asked for report in three days, 21 people have died

New Delhi. A high-level inquiry has been ordered into the massive fire incident in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu held a high-level meeting with concerned officials to review the incident. Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Pravesh Wahi has written a letter to the Corporation Commissioner asking for a detailed investigation report into the incident within three days. Along with this, instructions have also been given to submit the details of the action. 21 people have died in this incident while many others are injured and are undergoing treatment in the hospital. The dead include 6 foreign nationals, who are said to be residents of Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique and Bangladesh, while 6 have not been identified.

Delhi Police has registered an FIR under culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) in connection with the incident. It is also being claimed that the hotel building where the fire broke out did not even have a fire NOC. Apart from this, there was only one lift in the entire building and a single staircase next to it. The building was built in the 80s and gradually one floor after another was constructed in the building illegally.

Delhi government minister Ashish Sood has said that those responsible for this incident will not be spared, strict action will be taken against them soon. 10 firefighters were also injured while extinguishing the fire and have been admitted to Delhi AIIMS. Among those who lost their lives in this tragic incident, 8 people belong to the same family. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand each for the injured. After the fire, many people jumped from the building to save their lives.
