Odisha: CBI catches Superintendent of Income Tax Department red-handed taking bribe in Bhadrak, legal action initiated

Odisha: Taking a major action against corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an office superintendent posted at the Income Tax Office in Bhadrak, Odisha red-handed while taking bribe. The accused is accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in exchange for the process of removing the duplicate PAN card. After receiving the complaint, CBI registered the case and conducted a trap operation. During the action, the accused was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000. At present, CBI is interrogating the accused and is also investigating whether any other person is involved in this case.

The accused superintendent, who has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a bribery case, has been identified as Ramesh Kumar Mohanty, who was working as office superintendent in the Income Tax Office, Bhadrak. According to CBI officials, the agency had received a complaint alleging that the accused officer was demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000 for the process of removing the duplicate PAN card of the complainant. After investigating the complaint, CBI registered a case against the accused on June 3, 2026 and initiated action.

CBI conducted trap operation

After this CBI organized a trap operation. Under the scheme, the complainant came in contact with the accused and as soon as the accused accepted the bribe amount, the CBI team caught him red handed. According to the investigating agency, the accused was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 4,000 from the complainant.

Legal action initiated against the accused

CBI has taken the accused into custody and started further legal action. The agency is also investigating other aspects of the case to find out whether any other person was also involved in this bribery case. CBI said that its action against corruption cases will continue and strict action will be taken against the culprits as per law.
