BRICS Meeting in Varanasi: After G-20, Varanasi will now host the BRICS meeting, the world will see the talent of Kashi; Exhibitions of ODOP and GI products will be decorated

Varanasi, Read: After successfully hosting the G-20 meetings, Kashi, the world’s oldest living city, is once again going to witness an international event. The second meeting of the BRICS Culture Working Group will be held in Varanasi on 4 and 5 June. Senior diplomats, policy-makers, cultural experts and distinguished representatives of the member countries will participate in this meeting to be held at the Taj Hotel.

The BRICS grouping includes India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa along with Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. In such a situation, this event is being considered an important opportunity to showcase the art, culture and handicrafts of Kashi on the global stage. Due to the efforts being made by the state government for cultural heritage conservation, tourism development, promotion of local products and employment generation, Kashi has once again got the opportunity to present its rich cultural identity to the world. During the meeting a special exhibition of world famous GI tagged and ODOP products of Kashi will be organized. Products like Banaras Brocade and Sarees, Pink Meenakari, Wooden Lacquerware and Toys, Soft Stone Jali Work, Metal Repose Craft and Glass Beads will be displayed in it. Through the exhibition, foreign delegates will be introduced to the rich craft tradition of Kashi.

Craftsmen will get a global platform

GI expert and Padmashree Rajinikanth said that the presence of representatives of BRICS countries is a big opportunity for local artists and entrepreneurs. This will increase the export possibilities and provide a new route for the traditional products of Kashi to reach the global market.

Handicrafts will move from local to global

National Awardee Rameshwar Singh said that international events provide a big platform to the craftsmen. The display of handicraft products at the BRICS meeting will provide global recognition to the skills of artisans and strengthen access to new markets.

Export and order possibilities will increase

National Awardee of Pink Meenakari Craft Kunj Bihari said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have given a new identity to GI and ODOP products. Through this exhibition, foreign guests will get acquainted with the traditional art of Kashi and new opportunities for export will be created.
