Türkiye’s double standards! ‘Friendship’ with Pakistan, always betrayed on Kashmir? Now said to India- ‘Our friendship…’

Turkey has given a big statement expressing its desire to save and advance its relations with India. Turkey says that its friendship with Pakistan should not be seen as enmity against India. He made it clear that his support for Islamabad should not affect cooperation and mutual relations with other countries (especially India).

What did the Turkish Foreign Minister say?

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan gave a big peace message for India in a lecture at the ‘International Institute for Strategic Studies’ (IISS) at Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Hakan Fidan said in his address, ‘Turkey and India should move forward together, because we have many opportunities to cooperate and benefit each other. Both of us are mature enough countries to move forward in this direction. Türkiye is not the only country which has good and brotherly relations with Pakistan, there are many other countries in the world.

According to the video of the speech shared by Clash Report on social media platform Emphasizing on the bilateral relations between India and Turkey, he said, ‘As I said, we have no dispute or problem with India at the bilateral level. We request India not to look at this matter from any different perspective. This is the right thing to do between the two countries.

What is the meaning of this statement?

This statement of the Turkish Foreign Minister has come at a time when tension between India and Pakistan regarding cross-border terrorism is at its peak. Pakistan has been criticized at the global level for terrorism, but despite this, Türkiye has always been seen standing with it. This is the reason why this new stand of Türkiye is being considered very important for India.

Türkiye’s stance on Kashmir issue

Türkiye and Pakistan have enjoyed deep political, diplomatic and defense ties for decades. At international forums like the United Nations, Türkiye has been continuously supporting Pakistan on the Kashmir issue, which India has always strongly opposed. Despite the disputes, India and Turkey have good relations on the trade, tourism and business front. However, due to the statements made by Ankara (capital of Türkiye) on Kashmir and its closeness to Pakistan, these relations have soured from time to time.

Both the countries were face to face even during ‘Operation Sindoor’

Turkey had openly supported Islamabad even after Operation Sindoor in May last year. In fact, on 22 April 2025, a major terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam in which terrorists with Pakistani connections killed 26 people. In response to this, the Indian Army conducted a surgical strike (military action) on terrorist targets inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in May 2025, which was named ‘Operation Sindoor’.

During that military confrontation, the Turkish Foreign Ministry had issued a statement criticizing India’s action, ‘We are concerned about the changing situation between Pakistan and India. This action taken by India has increased the risk of full-scale war. We condemn attacks and such provocative actions targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.

After that tension, now this latest statement given by the Foreign Minister of Turkey from the platform of Singapore is being considered as a big effort to improve the deteriorated relations with India and extend the hand of friendship afresh.
