Trump calls Parliament’s vote on war powers ‘wasteful’!
The House of Representatives recently passed a bill by a vote of 215-208 that aims to prevent the President from taking military action against Iran without congressional approval. Four Republican lawmakers also joined the Democrats in this voting.
Responding on his social media platforms, Trump said the vote comes at a time when his government is engaged in the final stages of negotiations to end the war with Iran.
He wrote, “Yesterday the House held a meaningless vote. Four useless Republicans and all the Democrats voted to limit my war powers while I conduct final negotiations to end the war with Iran. Who would do such a thing against a country?”
Trump targeted the Democratic Party, alleging that they suffer from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and do not want to acknowledge any of his achievements. He said that the Democrats want his political failure more than the country’s success.
The president also criticized the four Republican lawmakers who supported the bill. Trump described them as “grandstanders” and said they should be ashamed of their behavior.
On Wednesday, the US House of Representatives passed the bipartisan ‘War Powers Resolution’, which aims to end US military action against Iran. This move was considered a political blow to Trump. The proposal was tabled on Wednesday (local time).
Meeks called it a major turning point, saying, “The passage of my ‘War Powers Resolution’ represents bipartisan opposition to President Trump’s illegal and costly war against Iran and the first step toward ending it completely.”
