This comes special for PM Modi and the President, why is there no-entry for the general public?

India is not called the country of mangoes for nothing. Such varieties of mango are found in every state here that one can keep licking one’s fingers. But do you know that in our country there is a mango which gets only royal respect? Yes, we are talking about the famous ‘Jardalu Mango’ of Bihar, for which big VIPs of the country are crazy.

This mango is not like that which you can buy from a food stall or a common market. Actually, it is not easily available in the market nor is it commonly sold. Every year, the Bihar government sends this specially selected mango as a gift to Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Due to its excellent taste, excellent aroma and rarity, Jardalu mango has become the most favorite fruit of the stalwarts holding the highest constitutional posts in the country.

After all, where did this unique mango come from?

Many interesting stories are famous about the history of Jardalu mango and its origin. Some experts believe that it reached here through trade routes in ancient times, while others consider it to be the unique magic of the fertile soil of Bihar. But the story that is heard the most is that about 200 years ago, a king had planted the first Jardalu tree in Madhuban Bagh. The surprising thing is that the centuries-old original tree is still standing intact and gives the same delicious fruits every year.

If we talk about taste, Jardalu mango is far ahead of all other mangoes. It is slightly small in size and beautiful golden-yellow in appearance. It is extremely juicy and full of melt-in-the-mouth sweetness. Its fragrance is so strong that when it ripens, it scents the entire garden. Bhagalpur district of Bihar is the main center of cultivation of this special mango. In the year 2021, Jardalu mango has also received the ‘Geographical Indication’ i.e. GI tag, which gives the government seal on its purity and geographical specialty. Every year, when the season comes, the Bihar government itself selects the best mangoes and sends it to the President and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who have praised it on many occasions.

Why does it taste so amazing?

The local people of Bhagalpur even say that once one has tasted Jardalu mango, he does not like any other mango in the world. The biggest advantage and shortcoming of this mango is that it is not produced commercially on a large scale. Due to limited production, it is eaten mostly by local people or it is sent to Delhi as a government gift. This is the reason why crores of common Indians of the country have not even tasted this mango till date.

Today, farmers of Bihar are working hard day and night to expand the scope of Jardalu mango cultivation. Ever since it got the GI tag, its demand has increased a lot in the market, but despite this it is not sold like common fruits in general shops. Now ways are also being explored to export it abroad. Some big and premium fruit vendors sell it at very expensive prices on online platforms, but the real fun comes only in Jardalu plucked straight from the orchards of Bhagalpur. This mango is not only the king of taste, but is also a symbol of the centuries-old cultural heritage of Bihar and the tradition of the era of kings and emperors which is still alive today.
