What is call forwarding?
Call forwarding is a telecom feature that automatically redirects incoming calls to your mobile number to another phone number.
If call forwarding is on and is connected to another number, anyone calling you will be connected to that other number instead of your phone. This feature is beneficial for people who use multiple numbers, travel frequently, or want someone else to handle their calls for a period of time.
However, if call forwarding is accidentally turned on, you may miss important personal or work calls.
How to turn on call forwarding
Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and BSNL users can enable call forwarding through their phone’s settings:
Settings → Calls → Advanced Settings → Call Forwarding
Telecom operators also provide USSD codes to enable different types of call forwarding, including:
all incoming calls
Incoming calls when the line is busy
unanswered calls
Incoming calls when the phone is off or out of network coverage
How to check if call forwarding is on
If you suspect that your calls are being forwarded, there’s a simple way to check the status.
Follow these steps:
Open your phone’s dialer.
Dial *#21#.
Press the Call button.
Within a few seconds, the call forwarding status will appear on your screen. If forwarding is on, the system will also show the number to which your calls are being redirected.
