Will AI go out of control? Anthropic gave a big warning about the future

New Delhi: Is AI now moving towards making itself more powerful? A new debate has erupted in the world of Artificial Intelligence. AI company Anthropic believes that its chatbot Cloud is now not only helping humans, but is also speeding up the process of developing new AI systems. The company says that if this pace continues, then such AI models may emerge in the future which will be capable of creating better next generation AI systems than itself.

Anthropic has said in its recent blog post that at present AI has not reached the stage of fully developing itself, but considering the speed at which technology is progressing, this possibility cannot be ignored. The company believes that governments, regulatory bodies and society should be prepared for such a possible future from now on. The company clarified that this situation is still far away and may never become a reality, but if it does, institutions will have very little time to prepare.

AI capabilities growing faster than ever

According to Anthropic, both public data and internal company data indicate that AI is now significantly increasing the efficiency of engineers and researchers. Its positive results are being seen in areas like health, science and productivity, but at the same time the question is also arising that how will humans maintain control over such capable AI systems in the future. The company says that the complexity and duration of tasks that can be handled by AI is continuously increasing. Whereas earlier AI could do work that took only a few minutes, now it has started completing complex tasks that last for several hours.

How has the picture of AI technology changed?

Anthropic said that initially software engineers used to write every code themselves. Later chatbots started helping in small coding tasks. After this came AI agents that could create and edit files themselves. Today’s situation is that modern AI agents can not only write code but can also run it, complete many tasks automatically and can also delegate responsibility to other AI agents when needed. According to the company, the next natural step is to create systems that play an active role in developing future AI models.

Claude’s increasing strength increased discussion

Anthropic claimed that its AI model Claude is now writing most of the code used to develop the company’s AI systems. Due to this there has been a huge increase in the productivity of engineers. According to the company, an average engineer is now able to produce approximately eight times more code per day than in 2024. Apart from this, Claude is also performing better in research work and is helping in solving many complex technical challenges.

Three possible pictures of the future

Anthropic mentioned three possible scenarios for the coming years. First, the pace of AI development may slow down. Second, AI should become increasingly more productive but human control remains. Third, AI systems themselves start creating their own successor AI models. The company believes that at present the second scenario appears most likely. That means the capability of AI will increase, but the role of humans will remain in important decisions and monitoring.

The role of humans is still important

Anthropic says that humans still have the edge in broader thinking, making strategic decisions, and deciding which problems are worth working on. However, the company also believes that the biggest challenge in the future will not be to make AI more powerful, but to maintain effective monitoring over it.

The company has suggested that if AI development ever begins to exceed safe limits, governments and major tech companies should consider working together to temporarily control its pace. However, any such step should be coordinated at the global level, so that no party can gain an unfair advantage due to competition.
