Varun Dhawan’s film ‘Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ released, court refuses to grant relief

Successful release of the film ‘Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’

If there is youth then there has to be love: Varun Dhawan’s new film ‘Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ has been released on time. The Bombay High Court refused to grant immediate relief on the petition filed by Pooja Entertainment, due to which the film released as scheduled on Friday.

Court decision and lawsuit

Pooja Entertainment had filed a lawsuit regarding the rights of the film and its songs. Tips Industries Limited, Ramesh Taurani, Kumar S Taurani and filmmaker David Dhawan were included in this petition.

Justice Farhan P. Dubash heard the case during the court’s vacation and declined to pass any immediate order. He said that a similar case is already going on in Bihar, so there is no need for immediate intervention of the Bombay High Court.

Case going on in Bihar

Pooja Entertainment had filed a lawsuit on the same issue in the civil court in Katihar, Bihar in April 2026. On May 6, that court had given the order for ex-party status, but the Supreme Court stayed that order on May 22. Now the matter is pending in Patna High Court.

During the hearing in Bombay High Court, information came to light that Pooja Entertainment has applied to withdraw the Bihar case, but permission has not been received yet. The company told the Bombay Court that it wants to withdraw the Bihar case and move forward here.

Forum shopping allegation

Senior advocate Ravi Kadam, appearing for Tips Industries, argued that Pooja Entertainment is doing forum shopping, that is, after not getting relief in one court, it is trying elsewhere. He also said that the preparations for the release of the film are well advanced and the parties have delayed without any reason.

The court expressed displeasure over the lack of complete information about what happened in the Patna High Court in Pooja Entertainment’s petition. Ultimately, the Bombay High Court did not impose any interim stay, resulting in the Varun Dhawan-David Dhawan film releasing in theaters on Friday. There was already a lot of discussion about the music and story of the film.
