Brahma is elder or Vishnu? When Gods fought, this is how Shiva resolved the fight

In Sanatan Dharma, on one hand Brahma ji is considered the creator of the universe, while on the other hand Lord Vishnu is considered the sustainer i.e. protector of the world. For this reason, whenever the world is filled with atrocities and sins, Lord Vishnu incarnates. Through his various incarnations he has protected people and destroyed sin. The question arises in the minds of many people that who is the best God. There was a dispute between Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu regarding this question. Lord Shiva played an important role in resolving this dispute.

According to mythology, once Lord Brahma became proud of his powers, due to which he started considering himself as the best god. It was in this arrogance that Lord Brahma called Lord Vishnu his son. Hearing this, Lord Vishnu became angry. After which there was a dispute between the two gods. As the dispute escalated, Lord Shiva held a competition between the two gods and said that the one who would be successful in it would be considered the best god.

Dispute between Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu

According to mythology, when Lord Brahma started feeling arrogant about his powers, he went to Lord Vishnu. At that time Lord Vishnu was resting. After reaching Lord Vishnu’s bedroom, Lord Brahma said, ‘O son, get up and look at me. I am your God and Supreme Soul. Worship me.’

Lord Vishnu became angry after hearing Brahma ji’s words. After which Lord Vishnu said, ‘You have become arrogant. I am the sustainer of the entire creation, so how did you become my father? No one considered you a father, but you consider yourself a father. After this the dispute between the two gods increased further. Both of them started calling themselves superior gods. Because of this both the gods went to Lord Shiva to know the answer to this question.

Lord Shiva organized a competition

After the dispute, both the gods went to Lord Shiva and asked him the answer to this question. Instead of giving a direct answer, Shiv ji organized a competition. In this competition, Lord Shiva revealed a huge Shivalinga and asked both the gods to find the beginning and end of this Shivalinga. After this, both the gods went in different directions and started searching for the beginning and end of Shivalinga.

Brahma ji cheated in the competition

On one hand, Lord Vishnu took the form of an animal and started searching for the beginning and end of Shivalinga on earth and in the underworld, but he could not find its end. After this he accepted his defeat in front of Lord Shiva.

On the other hand, Brahma ji resorted to lies to win the competition. He made the Ketaki flower a false eyewitness and approached Lord Shiva and said that he had found the end of Shivalinga. Ketaki flower also supported his statement.

Whom did Lord Shiva call the best God?

Lord Shiva became angry due to this lie. Lord Shiva declared Lord Vishnu victorious in this competition and described him as the best. Brahma ji was cursed that his worship in the world would be very limited. Also, Ketaki flower was cursed to not be accepted in Shiva worship.

Lord Shiva thus resolved the dispute of superiority between Brahma and Vishnu and gave the message that arrogance always ends in defeat, while truth and humility triumph.
