Big announcement of Supreme Court: Entry of AI in courts, but only judges will give the verdict
Knews Desk– The Supreme Court has issued important guidelines regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the country’s justice system. The court has clarified that AI can be used to make judicial work easier, but only human judges will have the right to take the final decision in any case.
According to the draft rules issued by the Supreme Court, AI can be used in tasks like legal research, drafting of documents, translation, transcription and case management. This will help in speeding up the process of disposal of cases pending in courts and making administrative work more effective.
However, the court has clearly said that AI cannot take judicial decisions under any circumstances. The draft rules provide that only the judge will decide on matters such as interpretation of law, evaluation of facts, determination of guilt or innocence, bail, sentence or final order. The role of AI will be only a supporting tool.
The Supreme Court has also warned that AI systems without transparency or unable to explain the results will not be used in the judicial process. The Court believes that judicial independence, impartiality and accountability transcend any technology.
Experts say that AI can increase efficiency in the judicial system, but cannot replace justice, sensitivity and human discretion. For this reason, the Supreme Court has prepared an outline for the use of AI keeping in mind the principle of “Human Primacy”.
