India Announced Squad for Ireland T20I Series 2026

The BCCI has officially announced India’s squad for the two-match T20I series against Ireland in Belfast, scheduled for June 26 and June 28, 2026, with several significant selection calls making headlines.

Shreyas Iyer has been appointed India’s new T20I captain, succeeding Suryakumar Yadav, who has been dropped from the setup entirely. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar acknowledged it was a difficult call but pointed to Iyer’s consistent performances and leadership record across IPL franchises as the deciding factor. “Shreyas is well-deserving,” Agarkar confirmed.

Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain, with Axar Patel stepping down from the role. Agarkar noted the reshuffle reflects a long-term view heading into the next two-year T20 World Cup cycle.

The standout inclusion remains Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener who dominated IPL 2026 with 776 runs and the Orange Cap. If he takes the field in Belfast, he would become the youngest player ever to represent India’s men’s senior team.

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are both absent, with uncapped pacer Prince Yadav earning a maiden call-up.

Full India Squad: Shreyas Iyer (c), Tilak Varma (vc), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Nitish Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
