Patriarchal thinking is the root of society, double standards still persist: Madhuri Dixit!
Actress Madhuri Dixit is excited about her latest release drama crime comedy film ‘Maa Behan’ on Netflix. The actress, who is busy with promotions, has raised questions on patriarchal thinking while talking about the different attitudes towards women and men in the society. Madhuri said that society still adopts double standards in matters of love and relationships.
Madhuri Dixit told IANS, “This is a patriarchal society. This has been happening since the beginning. If a man makes a girlfriend, he is called ‘Casanova’ or Romeo. But if a woman does the same, she is called bad and is seen in a negative light.”
The actress said that her film ‘Maa Behan’ challenges these old traditions and rules. The characters shown in the film are flawed, complicated and exactly like real life.
In the film, women have been given strong roles that break traditional rules. She stressed that every woman deserves to live with respect and dignity.
Madhuri said, “In this film we have broken every rule made by the society and we had fun with it. The characters are very complex, but very real. You will feel connected to yourself.”
‘Maa Behan’ is directed by Suresh Triveni. In this, Madhuri Dixit is playing the role of a mother named Rekha. The story revolves around Rekha, who is already struggling with many difficulties. Suddenly a dead body is found in his kitchen. Along with her two daughters, responsible Jaya and outspoken Sushma, she thinks fast, lies and hides the truth from the neighbors to deal with this problem.
Along with Madhuri, Trupti Dimri, Dharna Durga, Ravi Kishan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Arunoday Singh and Shardul Bhardwaj also play important roles in the film. This film is currently streaming on Netflix.
