Five new courses including AI, Robotics will be started in Gurdaspur State University from the academic session 2026-27: Harjotat Singh

Chandigarh: As part of broader efforts to promote technical and professional education in the state, Punjab Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains announced that five new industry and skill-based courses are being started in Sardar Beant Singh State University, Gurdaspur from the academic session 2026-27.

S. Bains said that the new courses include B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning, B.Tech in Robotics and AI, B.Pharmacy, B.Sc. Agriculture and MCA, MBA. And M.Sc. It includes five-year integrated programmes.

The Education Minister said that this step was taken by S. It is part of the broader vision of the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government to make higher education employment-oriented and globally competitive. He said, “The old model of just theory and exam-centric education is now irrelevant. Hence, we are focusing it on practical training, laboratory-based learning and solving real-life problems. Sardar Beant Singh State University will no longer be just a degree-granting institution, but a launchpad for youth aspiring for innovation and entrepreneurship.”

S. Bains said that it will be necessary for every student to participate in a compulsory internship and live projects of one semester duration. He said the government aims to ensure that when a student graduates, he or she is already industry ready. He said that this is not just a change in the curriculum, but a revolutionary change in the culture of learning, earning and moving forward in Punjab.

The Education Minister stressed that this initiative has been launched with an aim to stop the trend of migration of talent and skills from the state. Now the parents of Punjab will not be forced to send their children out of the state for quality technical or pharmaceutical education, because the Hon’ble Government is developing modern universities in Punjab itself as per the future needs.
