The bullying of China and America will end! India’s grand plan to eradicate the semiconductor crisis
India has taken the biggest and historic step so far to overcome the semiconductor (chip) crisis that has shaken the global tech industry and automobile sector. Till now, India had to completely depend on countries like Taiwan, China and America for this magical chip, which is used in everything from smartphones, laptops to cars and defense equipment. But now this global dependence is going to end forever. Under the ambitious ‘Semiconductor Mission’ (ISM) of the Government of India, a big and positive report has come out, which has drawn the attention of tech giants from all over the world towards India. According to the latest estimates, by the financial year 2035 (FY2035), India will start producing more than 50 percent of its total semiconductor requirements domestically.
Commercial production of indigenous chips is going to start from this year itself. The biggest and exciting thing about this entire mission is that the country will not have to wait long for this. Commercial production of semiconductors on Indian soil is going to start from this year itself. The work on giant semiconductor fabrication plants (Fabs) being set up in high-tech centers like Dholera in Gujarat and Morigaon in Assam has reached the final stage. The country’s first ‘Made in India’ chip is ready to be made and hit the market very soon through a consortium of big companies like Tata Electronics and Taiwan’s PSMC. With this launch, India will join the elite list of select countries in the world which have the technology to make their own chips.
Half of the market will be in India’s control by FY2035, step towards self-reliance According to officials and industry experts, India will become a global hub of electronics manufacturing by financial year 2035. Currently, India imports almost 100% of its chips, which drains the country of a huge revenue and halts the production of domestic companies due to supply chain disruptions. But with the aim of meeting half of its own needs by the year 2035, not only the country’s domestic demand will be met, but India will also start exporting these chips to countries around the world on a large scale. This step is going to prove to be a game-changer in increasing the country’s GDP and reducing the fiscal deficit.
Jobs will open for millions of youth, there will be a boom in the tech sector. With the development of semiconductor ecosystem in India, not only the companies but also millions of youth of the country are going to get direct benefits from it. With the expansion of this high-tech industry, lakhs of direct and indirect jobs will be created in the country in the field of designing, fabrication, testing and packaging. With this, Indian startups and tech companies will start getting semiconductors at very low prices and without any delay, which will enable rapid manufacturing of cheap smartphones, electric vehicles (EVs) and electronics gadgets within the country. Overall, this project is going to prove to be the strongest foundation towards making India a global superpower technologically.
