Explainer: What is the minimum age limit to play in international cricket, know on what basis Vaibhav Suryavanshi got the chance
Explainer: Cricket started in the 16th century. From then till now the form and color of cricket has completely changed. Cricket started with white clothes, which changed over the years and evolved into colorful clothes. Everything changed from cricket bat to ball. Cricket bats became light and attractive, while balls changed from red to white. Now Test cricket is played with red ball, in which white jersey is worn. Whereas ODI and T20 cricket is played with white balls, colored jerseys are worn by the players.
The form of cricket has changed rapidly with time. At one time the game of cricket used to be very slow. Used to play like a player and didn’t think much about scoring runs. In such a situation, the number of fours and sixes was very less. Now players play fast and the hunger for runs is seen in them. The result of this is that the ball goes out of the boundary more and the batsmen hit more fours and sixes.
Amidst this changing form of cricket, many rules also changed. From time to time, various types of rules were made by the biggest body of cricket i.e. ICCC, which were useful in providing facilities to the players. In this series, a rule also came, about which it is important to know once again today. It is important to know this rule today because Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been included in the Indian cricket team.

What is the minimum age limit to play international cricket?
The International Cricket Council (ICC) implemented the ‘minimum age policy’ for playing international cricket on November 19, 2020. After this the minimum age for playing international cricket was fixed. According to this policy, international cricket can be played at the age of 15 years. The minimum age to play international cricket should be 15 years. Earlier there was no minimum age to play in international cricket.
Now, even though the minimum age for playing international cricket has been kept at 15 years, relaxation can also be given in some special cases. Players below 15 years of age can also play international cricket for their respective countries. For this, their cricket board will have to take special permission from the International Cricket Board (ICC).
Countries and their cricket boards still have the option to field players below the prescribed age limit. This can happen in extraordinary circumstances. When a member board can apply to the ICC that it wants permission for a player under the age of 15 to play for his country.

After this the ICC will examine the player’s playing experience, mental development and health condition. If that player is able to meet the demands of international cricket, then he can be given a chance to play even before the minimum age of 15.
Why was the minimum age limit created to play international cricket?
The International Board of Control for Cricket (ICC) had implemented the minimum age limit policy keeping in mind the safety of the players in cricket. ICC does not want any kind of loss to any players. If players are under 15 years of age and face fast bowlers in international cricket, they are worried about injuries and physical damage.
At the same time, players below 15 years of age are not fully prepared to bear the pressure of international cricket. Players below 15 years of age are kept in the children category only. Keeping in mind that a child will not be able to play cricket with an experienced and big cricketer, this policy was implemented by the ICC. The way a 20 to 35 year old player can run on the field. Can understand the game of cricket. However, a player below 15 years of age cannot understand.
To ensure the safety of the players, the ICC had issued the minimum age limit and announced that it will be applicable to all types of cricket including ICC tournaments, bilateral cricket and Under-19 cricket. This will also include men’s, women’s or under-19 international cricket. The minimum age of players to play in any of these formats has been kept at 15 years.
