Economic security is the real national security: Naravane

General Naravane analyzed global conflicts and explained the interrelationship of economy and security. He said that national security is directly linked to economic security. In fact, the economy drives everything in the world. According to the former army chief, India’s endeavor has always been to become self-reliant while remaining within the ambit of global trade. We cannot keep ourselves completely isolated from the shocks of any major crisis occurring in the world. This is why India is now diversifying its supply sources. Domestic production is being continuously strengthened so that the country can be protected from any future global shocks. The world has always been in change and India understands its priorities very well.

Modernization of army and increasing power of drones

Regarding the modernization of the Indian Armed Forces, he said that modernizing the Army, Navy and Air Force is a never-ending task. Now India’s entire focus is on purchasing indigenous equipment. From Ukraine to the current US-Iran conflict, recent wars have proven the strategic strength of drones and unmanned aircraft. Learning from this experience, the Indian Army has significantly increased the purchase of drones. In this sector, the role of India’s domestic companies and MSMEs, which are manufacturing indigenous drones on a large scale, is going to be most important.

Relations with Bangladesh and murmur on the border

The former army chief expressed full confidence in relations with neighboring country Bangladesh. He said that it is very natural to have ups and downs in the relations between two countries. A decline should not always be viewed negatively. Relations often improve after ups and downs and India-Bangladesh relations are moving towards strength again. On the work of fencing the India-Bangladesh border, he said that this project has been going on for more than a decade. Being a riverine area, fencing this border has always been a very complex and challenging task. The remaining stretches between West Bengal and Bangladesh are now being rapidly covered so that the entire border can be completely secured.
