‘I am very happy for Shreyas’, Suryakumar Yadav’s heart winning statement after snatching the captaincy
Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav, the player who made India win the T20 World Cup under his captaincy two months ago, suffered a big shock on Saturday (June 6). BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia and Indian Chief Selector, while announcing the team for the tour of Ireland and England, declared Shreyas Iyer as the new captain. Surya had to lose his captaincy as well as his place in the team. However, even after such a big setback, Surya did not allow himself to become weak. He is happy with his teammate Iyer getting the captaincy. He has given a big statement regarding Iyer.
Suryakumar Yadav congratulated Iyer
Suryakumar Yadav has congratulated Iyer on getting the captaincy of the Indian T20 team. He said that he is very happy for them. Suryakumar Yadav said in his statement before the 12th match of Mumbai T20 League 2026,
‘A lot of things are happening, but I am very happy for Shreyas Iyer that he has got the captaincy of the Indian T20 team. We have played a lot of cricket together for Mumbai. The most special thing is that three Mumbai captains are captaining the Indian T20 team continuously. This is really a proud moment and I think we all should celebrate it.

Bad form became Surya’s enemy
There was no flaw in Surya’s leadership, but the bat was not supporting him. This was the reason why the selectors had to take this difficult decision. Surya got countless opportunities to return to form, but he could not capitalize on them. Poor form did not leave Surya in IPL 2026. Suryakumar is also well aware of why he has been treated like this.
BCCI has handed over the captaincy to Shreyas Iyer for the bright future of Team India. He has proved himself both as a leader and player in IPL and domestic cricket. This is the reason why Agarkar called Iyer the rightful candidate to get the captaincy of the T20 team. The tenure of veteran right-handed batsman Iyer will start from the Ireland tour, which will take place in the end of June.
