Hi-tech strategy against drugs in Dehradun, drug network will be monitored with GIS technology

Uttarakhand News: Dehradun district administration is now going to take the help of modern technology to effectively stop the growing drug trade in Uttarakhand. The administration has planned to start Geographic Information System (GIS) based mapping to identify drug smugglers active in the district, possible routes of drug supply and sensitive areas.

The objective of this initiative is to understand the drug network through technical analysis and take precise action on it. Officials believe that with the use of digital data, it will be easier to identify those areas from where information about drug trafficking or related activities is continuously being received.

Special attention will be kept on sensitive areas

The administration will prepare digital records of those places where drugs have been recovered earlier or complaints of drug trade have come to light at the local level. These areas will be kept under surveillance, patrolling and special operations on priority basis.

Supply chain and network of smugglers will be analyzed

Police records and data related to suspicious activities will be collected and studied on the GIS platform. This will help in finding out through which routes the drug consignment is entering the city and to which areas the distribution network extends.

Security will increase around educational institutions

Special monitoring arrangements will be made around schools, colleges and universities to keep the youth away from drugs. If suspicious activities are reported around any educational institution, additional police forces, CCTV surveillance and awareness campaigns will be conducted there.

District Magistrate reiterated zero tolerance policy

Dehradun District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan said that the drug problem is not just a matter of law and order but is an issue related to the future of society and youth. He said that effective solution to this challenge is possible only with the cooperation of administration, police, educational institutions and common citizens.

He clarified that zero tolerance policy against drugs has been adopted in the district and with this new technology-based system, more effective action will be taken against the criminals by identifying their networks.

New initiative towards drug free Uttarakhand

The administration believes that the use of GIS technology will help in understanding the patterns of drug trafficking, better deployment of resources and timely action in sensitive areas. The main goal of this initiative is to save the youth from falling prey to drugs and to strengthen the campaign to make Uttarakhand drug free.
