The actor, who played President Fitzgerald Grant in the hit political drama, recently expressed his opinion on Olivia Pope and Fitz’s future, indicating that he believes the couple would still be together today despite the numerous challenges they experienced throughout the series.
Reflecting on the romance that enthralled audiences for seven seasons, Goldwyn stated that he never saw Olivia and Fitz’s relationship as entirely toxic or bound to fail. Instead, he believes that the core of their relationship was genuine and lasting.
“I feel that what we had at the root of it was very real, and it’s why we could never get away from it,” Goldwyn said. “As opposed to being something that was ultimately dysfunctional.”
Tony Goldwyn says Olivia and Fitz from #Scandal would “absolutely” still be together today.

The actor went on to say that the characters complemented one another in such a way that their relationship worked despite its numerous problems. “I thought ultimately these two people were their answer to each other,” he replied.
For years, Olivia and Fitz were one of television’s most talked-about couples. Their relationship was characterised by political scandals, personal sacrifices, secret affairs, and emotional reunions, making it one of the most memorable couples on network television in the 2010s.
While fans frequently questioned whether the couple belonged together, their chemistry remained a key aspect of the show’s attraction.
Goldwyn also revealed how he saw Fitz supporting Olivia following the series finale. According to the actor, Fitz’s biggest drive was never power or politics, but rather Olivia’s pleasure and success.
“I feel like he was very supportive of her trajectory,” Goldwyn said, adding that whether Olivia became president or pursued another path, Fitz would have been her staunchest ally. “His real jones was to help this woman be her best self.”
The statements have delighted long-time Scandal fans, many of whom have continued to speculate about the couple’s future since the show’s finale in 2018. Goldwyn’s remarks add to the conversation, offering a hopeful glimpse into Olivia’s and Fitz’s lives after the cameras stopped rolling.
While the fate of the adored couple is open to interpretation, one thing is certain: nearly a decade after Scandal dominated television conversations, viewers are still emotionally involved in the series’ central romance.
