Chidambaram On Support To TVK: ‘Congress had given support to Thalapathy Vijay’s TVK only after telling DMK’, when Stalin’s party got angry, Chidambaram made this claim
New Delhi. In Tamil Nadu, Thalapathy Vijay’s support to TVK has created a rift between Congress and its old ally DMK. MK Stalin’s DMK is so angry over TVK getting support from Congress that it has even asked for separate seats for MPs from the Indi faction in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. At the same time, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has claimed that Congress supported Thalapathy Vijay’s TVK only after informing the DMK leadership. Congress has 5 MLAs in Tamil Nadu.

P. Chidambaram, while talking to a private news channel, said that if TVK had not got majority, then assembly elections would have been held again in Tamil Nadu. Congress and its allies wanted to avoid this. Chidambaram said that the people of Tamil Nadu also did not want re-election. He claimed that apart from DMK, Congress had earlier informed CPI, VCK and IUML about its support to TVK. The difference was that Congress announced its support to Thalapathy Vijay’s TVK a day before its allies. Let us tell you that Congress contested the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in alliance with DMK. DMK Chief MK Stalin and other leaders became very angry with Congress’s support to TVK.

DMK MP TR Baalu also alleged that Congress betrayed the people of Tamil Nadu who had voted for the DMK alliance. Thalapathy Vijay’s TVK had got 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Thalapathy Vijay himself won from 2 seats. In this way, after leaving one seat, the number of TVK MLAs became 107. The majority figure in Tamil Nadu Assembly is 118. Thus TVK needed 11 seats to form the government. TVK could form the government with the support of 5 MLAs from Congress and 2 each from CPI, CPM, VCK and IUML.
