Iraqi Star Player Ayman Hussein Who Arrived To Play In The Fifa World Cup Was Questioned For Seven Hours In The Us Team Preparations Affected
An unexpected development has emerged amid the preparations of the Iraq national football team before the FIFA World Cup 2026. After reaching America, the team’s star striker Ayman Hussain was detained and interrogated for about seven hours at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
According to reports, 30-year-old Ayman Hussein had arrived in America with the Iraqi team for World Cup preparations. During this time, American officials interrogated him in detail. They were allowed to enter the country after a lengthy investigation, but the incident raised concerns within the team just before the start of the tournament.
An Iraqi sports official was quoted as saying that Ayman Hussein’s mobile phone was also examined during the interrogation. However, neither the Iraq Football Association nor the player issued any official statement on the matter immediately.
Meanwhile, information about similar action being taken against Iraqi national team photographer Talal Salah has also come to light. According to reports, he was detained for more than 10 hours and reportedly not allowed to enter the US after detailed investigation.
This whole matter is also in discussion because Ayman Hussein is counted among the most important players of the current Iraqi team. He scored the decisive goal that helped Iraq qualify for the FIFA World Cup after a long wait of 40 years. Following this achievement he emerged as a national hero in the country and became one of the most popular faces of Iraqi football.
However, despite the initial hurdles, Ayman Hussain has now rejoined the team and is continuing his preparations for the tournament.
Iraq has been placed in Group I at the FIFA World Cup 2026 along with strong teams like France, Senegal and Norway. Iraq’s hopes of a better performance in this tough group will largely rest on Ayman Hussein’s experience and goalscoring ability.
